Early Career Award

ESRA awards an Early Career Award at each biennial conference, based on papers submitted for presentation at the conference. The author(s) of the winning paper are announced at the conference dinner, and the first author receives a cash award of Є500. Papers are welcome in any field related to survey research broadly defined, must be 9000 words maximum, and are judged based on the quality of research design, originality, significance, organization, and presentation. The papers are completed versions of proposals accepted by the organisers for presentation at the 2019 ESRA conference. The competition is open to researchers within two years of the completion of their doctorate or within five years of starting a career in survey research. The winning paper is selected by a review committee comprising survey researchers who are members of the ESRA board and by an extra external member. Submissions are made via the Conference Management System. Further details for 2019 will be announced in due course.

Criteria
The competition is intended to recognize excellence in research by scholars at an early stage in their careers. Papers are welcome in any field related to survey research broadly defined, including research on: theoretical issues in survey methodology; the use of statistical techniques in the design, adjustment, or analysis of survey data; and innovative empirical applications of survey methodology. Papers should be 9000 words maximum, references and footnotes included, and will be judged based on the quality of research design, originality, significance, organization, and presentation. The papers are completed versions of paper proposals accepted by the organisers for presentation at the 2019 ESRA conference.

Eligibility
The competition is open to researchers within two years of the completion of their doctorate or within five years of starting a career in survey research. They must therefore have completed their PhD no earlier than July 15, 2017, or started a career in survey research after that date, or still be registered university students. Eligibility is limited to papers that will be presented at the 2019 ESRA Conference in Zagreb. Nominated papers may have more than one author, but will only be eligible for the prize if: (a) all authors satisfy the Early Career Award rules for eligibility; or (b) any authors who do not satisfy the Early Career Award requirements are the PhD supervisor(s) of a first author who does satisfy the requirements.
