Session Details

Over the past few decades, survey research has experienced a substantial decline in response rates. While weighting procedures are widely employed to mitigate the bias induced by unit nonresponse, their practical application is constrained by critical methodological hurdles. Key challenges include the availability of relevant auxiliary benchmark information, the optimal selection (and collection) of auxiliary variables for the weighting model and the presence of sparse data patterns driven by non-random response mechanisms.
This session focuses on advanced weighting approaches to account for unit non-response. We invite empirical and theoretical contributions that explore methodological advances in weighting practices, including...
• procedures that allow for improvements in inclusion of benchmark information
• improvements of the weighted overall estimation based on sparse highly selective survey data
• improvements in variable selection by using appropriate survey variables.
